DCS Faculty Presents Two Papers in IEEE-ICOCI 2006

Joyce E. Avestro-Viray, a CS faculty member specializing in Mobile Computing and Information Systems, presented two papers in the IEEE International Conference on Computing and Informatics (ICOCI) 2006 held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia from June 6 to 8, 2006. One hundred twenty eight (128) technical papers by researchers, educators, scientists, engineers and students from over twenty (20) countries were accepted for presentation and publication after a rigorous peer-review process.

Joyce, being the only participant from the Philippines, presented her master's thesis entitled "Adaptive RTP-Compatible Audio Streaming for Handheld Clients (ARCASH)." Her thesis adviser was Professor Rommel P. Feria. She also presented another paper on mobile computing entitled "Denial of Service Attack on Mobile Phones using the Java Mobile Bluetooth API," that was co-authored with Mr. Ben-Hur C. Viray, and was a graduate course requirement in Computer Security under Dr. Susan Pancho-Festin.

The conference with the theme "Innovative Initiatives in ICT" was organized by University Utara Malaysia and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Malaysia.
