Engineers and other technical men play a
vital role in industrialization. Engineering education should,
therefore, be attuned to the needs of technological development. Being
the primary source of quality manpower, it is the mission of the UP
College of Engineering to provide industry and government with trained
engineers in all branches of profession.
The different engineering curricula have been so designed to prepare the
graduate for the challenges of his chosen career. They should adequately
equip the students with the proper theoretical background to be put into
practical use. Advanced studies are also available in the master's
programs in the various fields of engineering.
In addition, the College also provides opportunities for research and
development work which is an important factor in the industrialization
process.
The UP College of Engineering aims:
- To provide the basic engineering education which produces engineers
who, upon graduation, have the knowledge, skills, understanding of their
fields that would enable them to perform satisfactorily in the practice
of their profession and are capable and motivated to accept future
assignments of greater difficulty and responsibility.
- To provide intermediate engineering education through certificate and
diploma programs.
- To provide advanced engineering education at the MS and Ph.D.
levels.
- To undertake research activities supportive of the above mission with
maximum participation of faculty and students.
- To promote creative work like textbook, writing, development of
innovative teaching methods and materials, and publication of technical
papers.
- To extend technical assistance to industry, government entities and
the general public.
- To provide continuing education in the form of short courses,
seminars and workshops.
- To promote linkages with the government, industry and other
institutions in the areas of engineering education, research and
extension services.
