Diploma in Industrial Engineering
Objective: Provide comprehensive industrial engineering training
to graduates in other engineering fields and in the physical and mathematical
sciences.
Admission Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering,
Physical Sciences, or Mathematical Sciences; above-average academic performance
in the undergraduate level
Duration: Maximum of three (3) years

IE 201 Industrial Management. Organization theory; management
principles; managerial functions; the industrial environment; functional areas
of the industrial enterprise; human behavior & motivation. 2 u.
IE 202 Industrial Materials and Processes. Properties &
characteristics of common engineering materials: metals, plastics, wood, ceramics,
fiber & pulp. Production processes & design considerations in the
manufacture of such materials. 2 u.
IE 203 Industrial Productivity. Productivity concepts &
techniques; methods engineering; systems & procedures; human factors engineering;
value engineering. 2 u.
IE 211 Quantitative Methods in Industrial Engineering I.
Logic theory. Data analysis; descriptive statistics; probabilities; random
variables; expectations; probability distributions; estimation & industrial
engineering applications. Prereq: Math 54/ equiv. 2 u.
IE 212 Quantitative Methods in Industrial Engineering II.
Tests of hypotheses in industrial engineering problems; regression & correlation;
statistical control charts; sampling acceptance plans; specifications &
tolerances; reliability & life testing. Prereq: IE 211. 2 u.
IE 214 Introduction to Operations Research. Operations
research methodology; linear algebra; basic linear programming; network analysis;
dynamic programming; illustrative problems in queuing & inventory. Prereq:
Math 54/ equiv. 2 u.
IE 221 Project Development and Evaluation. The project environment;
project identification; project organization; market, technical & financial
feasibility analysis of projects; measure of profitability; benefit-cost analysis;
selections among alternatives. Prereq: IE 201, 202, 203. 2 u.
IE 222 Production Planning and Control Systems. Production
systems & functions. Forecasting, inventory planning, aggregate planning,
capacity planning, scheduling, maintenance & cost control. Prereq: IE
214; coreq: IE 212. 2 u.
IE 223 Industrial Systems Analysis and Design. Industrial
systems definition; components, boundaries & environment; methods employed
in systems analysis; criteria & constraints for systems design; identification
& evaluation of alternative designs. Prereq: IE 201, 202, 203. 2 u.
IE 229 Research Projects. Prereq: IE 214. 2 u.
