History

    In 1937, the first-degree course in Geodetic Engineering was offered by the University of the Philippines. Two years later, the first batch of seven was graduated and since then about four hundred have earned their bachelor's degree. The Department has undoubtedly produced country's best Geodetic Engineers, as proven by the outstanding performance of the graduates in the Professional Regulatory Commission Board Exams and first-rate service in both private and public sectors.

    The Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry was established in 1964 and continues to be a center of excellence for education, training and research in the fields of surveying and mapping in the Philippines. Last 2001, the Center has introduced major changes in its Remote Sensing and GIS Short course offerings. Coupled with the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, selected short courses were updated and revised to make training schedules convenient and impart knowledge that is more responsive and relevant to the needs of the government agencies, industry and private indivuals engaged in the inventory and planning of natural resources.
