In 1937, the first-degree course in Geodetic Engineering
was offered by the University of the Philippines. Two years later, the first
batch of seven was graduated and since then about four hundred have earned
their bachelor's degree. The Department has undoubtedly produced country's
best Geodetic Engineers, as proven by the outstanding performance of the
graduates in the Professional Regulatory Commission Board Exams and first-rate
service in both private and public sectors.
The Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry
was established in 1964 and continues to be a center of excellence for education,
training and research in the fields of surveying and mapping in the Philippines.
Last 2001, the Center has introduced major changes in its Remote Sensing
and GIS Short course offerings. Coupled with the acquisition of state-of-the-art
equipment, selected short courses were updated and revised to make training
schedules convenient and impart knowledge that is more responsive and relevant
to the needs of the government agencies, industry and private indivuals
engaged in the inventory and planning of natural resources.
